
Stop Paying to Heat the Air
Let’s be honest: glass annealing is a total power hog. If you’re like most shop owners, you’re probably staring at your electricity bills and wondering why they’re so damn high. The problem is that traditional heating elements are lazy. They spend half their time heating up the air around the glass instead of the glass itself. We got tired of that waste, so we built fast-response infrared radiators that actually aim for the workpiece. It cuts down the warm-up time and, more importantly, keeps more money in your pocket at the end of the year. Why it actually works It comes down to short-wave infrared tech. Most heaters rely on convection—which is basically just blowing hot air—but short-wave radiation sinks right into the glass surface. It’s fast. Really fast. Our high-density filaments hit target temperatures in seconds, not minutes. When you can ramp up to your annealing point that quickly, you can tighten your whole cycle. You get more pieces out the door without having to cram more ovens onto your shop floor. The trade-off (the honest part) Now, here is the catch. To get this kind of heat density, we push a lot of wattage. It saves energy in the long run, but it puts a real strain on your electrical setup during those peaks. Before you plug these in, double-check your wiring and breakers. They need to be able to handle the current draw. Also, keep an eye on your cooling fans. If they’re weak, the heat soak can fry your sensors or control boards. We usually suggest a dedicated cooling loop for the lamp housing—it’s a small step that keeps your lamps from burning out early. Getting it into your shop We didn’t want this to be a headache to install. You don’t have to rip out your entire heating rack or spend a weekend rebuilding your setup. These are designed as drop-in replacements for most standard industrial rigs. When you swap out those old resistive coils for our IR lamps, you stop fighting “thermal inertia.” You’re no longer wasting power trying to heat up a massive block of ceramic or metal. You’re just heating the glass. It’s a simple shift, but it makes a huge difference in what each unit actually costs you to produce.
