
Why Shortwave Infrared is the Only Way to Heat Wet Zones
Ever tried using a standard heater in a drafty changing room? It’s a waste of time. Those things try to warm up the air, but in a place with open doors and cold breezes, that heat just vanishes. You’re left shivering while the machine hums away. That’s why we use shortwave infrared (SWIR). Instead of fighting the air, it goes straight for you. How it actually works
Here is the secret: shortwave infrared hits different. It doesn’t need to warm up a surface or a room first. We use tungsten filaments tucked inside high-purity quartz tubes. The second you flip the switch, that filament gets hot. The energy travels in a straight line until it hits something solid—like your skin. It’s a small setup, but it packs a massive punch of heat exactly where you need it.
Dealing with the “Wet” part of Wet Zones
Water and high-voltage electricity are a nightmare pairing. To keep things from shorting out or burning through the bulbs, we use heavy-duty waterproof seals at the ends of the lamps. We also treat the quartz tubes with a special coating. Steam loves to leave mineral deposits behind, which usually blocks the heat. This coating keeps the lamps clean and efficient. Plus, we use high-temp wiring so the insulation doesn’t melt when things get really hot.
A few things to watch out for
You can’t just throw a high-power array into a tiny bathroom and call it a day. All that heat has to go somewhere. If the housing isn’t rated for it or doesn’t have enough breathing room, the casing will warp or start to discolor. It looks cheap and it’s not great for the hardware. One more tip: use a timer. You don’t want these running forever. It saves the filaments from wearing out too fast and keeps the room from becoming a sauna. Just enough heat to feel cozy, then it shuts off. Simple.
